4 Valentine's Day Activities Under $100

Who says the best dates must include overpriced roses and Omakase dinners priced as high as your blood pressure when the waiter hands you the bill?

Here are 4 date ideas to impress your favourite person that won’t require you to break (or rob) the bank!

Intertidal Walk | The Untamed Paths

Looking to impress someone who’s fascinated with marine animals? Then score a point or two by bringing him/her on a guided Intertidal Walk. Spanning 193-kilometres, Singapore has a coastline dominated by sandy beaches, rocky shores, and impenetrable mangroves. When tides are low, water recedes into the sea and offers us a glimpse of aquatic life only seen on diving trips or through foggy snorkelling masks. This region is known as the intertidal zone.

While dull and lifeless at first glance, the intertidal zone is home to strange and wonderful marine creatures that straddle two worlds. From hermit crabs stumbling about in Noble Volute shells to pink warty sea cucumbers brandishing their toothy anuses, an intertidal walk is bound to ignite the childlike wonder in every hiker.

Graffiti Workshop | Heaven Spot

If the very thought of squeezing into a tight dress or manicured suit for a 5-course dinner causes you physical pain, you might want to chuck that meal for something more casual. Head over to Heaven Spot, Singapore’s first graffiti workshop, where you are allowed to let your hair down and indulge your creative urges for an evening. Obscured in a dilapidated industrial building near Potong Pasir, Heaven Spot exudes a grunge underground vibe that unshackles you from all inhibitions. For just $39/pax, you get 2 spray cans, basic protective gears, and a 30 square feet surface to go absolutely crazy on. If you’re looking to bring your artwork home, simply top up $15 to paint on an additional wooden board. Do reserve your sessions in advance to avoid disappointment.

Opening hours
Tues to Thurs - 5pm to 10pm
Fri to Sun - 10am to 9pm

Pottery Workshop | Terra and Ember

Chances are your date has tried his/her hand at art jamming sessions. Numerous times. Fret not! Art is not confined to an 8 x 10 inches canvas. If you don’t mind getting your hands dirty (which is half the fun), check out the pottery workshops offered at Terra and Ember. Founded by a husband-wife duo who specializes in all things clay and ceramic, the group size for each workshop is kept small to ensure that you get all the guidance you need. Spotting a cosy loft interior, Terra and Ember is one of the most aesthetically-pleasing studios we’ve ever seen. For just $76, you get to experience forming your handiwork with the throwing wheel and bring home 2 complimentary bisque-fired pots.

Opening hours
Wed to Thurs - 1pm to 9.30pm
Sat to Sun - 9.30am to 6pm

If graffiti and pottery workshops aren’t enough to satiate your artistic appetites, Studio An’s “Dirty Debbie” Art Buffet is bound to leave you stuffed. For $55, you get a 3-hour session where you're allowed to experiment with a variety of crafts: acrylic painting, calligraphy, silk screen printing, wood or linocut printing, to name a few. There’s also a 4-hour tufting workshop ($185) where you can create your very own unique rug to spruce up your home. For the not-yet-married, what better way to cement the relationship than a handmade rug for your future home. You’re welcome.
